This remarkable late 1800s Italian hunt sideboard is richly carved. The arched crest has an antelope head at the centre which is flanked on both sides with poised griffins looking back . The top shelf is held up by two seated griffens (a hybrid fantastical creature with a lion’s head, an eagle’s wings and a serpent’s tail). The panels of the shelf below the two drawers show hunting dogs standing in their typical poses. This sideboard is profusely carved all over with fruits, foliage and is alive with intricate depictions of animals and chimeras, each telling its own tale.
