Presenting a remarkable antique pedestal from the late 17th century that captures the very essence of French Baroque. Sculpted in wood and with a very thick layer of gold leafing, this exquisite piece has a tall central column rising from a petalled square base. Hanging vines surround the columns and meet under the pedestal top. The climbing vines are sparsely and delicately carved with leaves and flowers such that each individual leaf and flower can be admired separately! The combination of polychromatic wood finish and thick gilding adds richness, depth and creates a visual masterpiece that speaks of the opulence of that period.
